About Us

Cub Scout Pack 185 is associated with the Katherine L Bates Elementary School.  We've been involved with the Bates School for years, we are a Parent-involved Pack.

As a Pack we are broken out into Dens that are Grade level units starting in 1st Grade, with around 8-10 boys and two Den leaders plus parents. Each Den usually meets once a month to review achievements for their badges, these vary by book. We recommend getting one of the books from the Scout Shop and reviewing it at the beginning of the year. Scouts also have time to work on Belt Loops, these have usually 3 requirements and you can notify the Den Leader when one is complete, Belt Loops are distributed at either the Pack Meeting or the Den Meeting, depending on attendance.

The Pack meets once per month for the Pack Meeting which will go over some general requirements, skills and sometimes special guests. There are also day and overnight trips, community service projects and some yearly events. Each year in September there is the Nobscot Overnight, camping at the Nobscot Reservation in Sudbury. The Pinewood Derby in January of each year, kits are distributed in the December Pack Meeting to give Scouts time to plan over Christmas Break.

Each October Scouts help move pumpkins to the Bates Pumpkin Patch, and every Fall there is the Scouting for Food, where Scouts drop off bags for Wellesley residents to fill with food that is collected and dropped off at the Wellesley Congregational Church. Each Fall there is also the Popcorn fundraiser to raise money for the Pack and Knox Trail Council.

We have a large amount of Parent participation and are continually adding new events each year such as Rocket Launching and the Wellesley College Observatory

Overall we get together and have FUN!
